No Cosafa Cup next month
Football Association of Malawi (FAM) has said the Cosafa Cup will not be played during the planned dates from May 27 to June 7.
In an interview yesterday, FAM operations director Gomezgani Zakazaka said this was announced at the Council of Southern Africa Football Associations (Cosafa) recent annual general meeting in South Africa.

“Those were just tentative dates and we will wait for Cosafa to come up with the fixed dates,” he said.
Zakazaka also said FAM went ahead to secure two international friendlies against Ethiopia due to the uncertainty that surrounded the Cosafa Cup.
The Flames will face Ethiopia’s Walias on June 6 and 9 in Addis Ababa.
Meanwhile, because of the development, Super League of Malawi has said the FDH Bank Premiership week six fixtures will proceed as scheduled during the weekend of May 30– June 3 2026.
A statement from Sulom, reads: “The league had previously been expected to resume on 20th June 2026 after the planned Cosafa break.
“Despite the adjustment in dates, the current structure, sequence and flow of the FDH Bank Premiership fixtures remain unchanged.
“Sulom further reminds clubs and stakeholders of the upcoming Fifa International Window running from 1 to 9 June 2026. Clubs are, therefore, encouraged to take this into account in their planning, squad management and player welfare considerations during the international break.”
